Governor Godswill Akpabio is in Houston to felicitate with the Akwa Ibom community in the United States of America, as they unite in preparations for the occasion of their annual convention in Florida, a special 25th Annual Convention/ Silver Jubilee Anniversary celebrations which is scheduled to hold between August 9th- 12th at Wyndham Orlando Resort, Orlando Florida .
He is there in company of his cabinet members, and Senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
There, he set the tone for the 25th year anniversary celebrations by cutting the anniversary cake in Texas within the week.
News reaching us from reliable sources have it that Akwa Ibom ambassador MISH- The Akwa Ibom ayaiya crooner is already on tour of the United States of America, and will be gracing the stage along side Mfon Umana the quintessential soul singer and another of Akwa Ibom's finest music export.

Government of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria, Mfon is the sixth of nine children.
HER MUSIC
MFON recalls writing her first song at the age of 9. During
her University days she composed a number of songs that have not been recorded
yet. Her first song on the guitar was composed in 2001 after she had gone
professional in Dubai. The feat of playing on the guitar she accomplished just
two months after handling the guitar for the first time. Mfon plays a unique
style of music that is a perfect mix of Folk, Jazz, and Soul constantly blended
and played with African rhythms. The fusion of African musical instruments in
her songs often leave her listeners surprised and wondering where she gets her
inspiration from, but for Mfon it’s simply the link with her creator and her
undying desire to promote her African roots.
The lyrics of her songs mostly dwell in relationship with
The Almighty, life, love, peace, harmony and integrity. Her vocal prowess is
not only melodious, alluring and inviting but also refreshingly powerful and
infectious. She’s a sight to behold every time she plays either in public or in
private, during rehearsals or before her friends. She sings from the depth of
her soul and subtly carriers her audience along so well that she’ often
referred to as the ‘soul of music’
Mfon is a songwriter, composer, rhythm guitarist and music
producer. Her ability to sing in English and French, sometimes combining both
Languages in a song, gives her a worldwide audience and distinguishes her. She
also sings in her native dialects, Efik and Ibibio as well as in Yoruba, Fon
and Ewe (dialects of Benin Republic). Her songs cut across all ages and
cultures. MFON is no doubt sufficiently equipped to climb to the very top of
the world music chart.
HER CAREER
Mfon’s musical career started professional in the Republic
of Bénin in 1999 after graduating from Universitè Nationale du Bénin, now
Université Nationale d’Abomeg Calavi. She and a few friends formed a band and
they played professionally in Bénin for ... years before she moved to Dubai in
2001. She notes how she was celebrated in Dubai every time she performed. She
was named the best female vocalist in Dubai and was also often referred to as
the artiste with the best stage performance.
Mfon’s deepest desire is to inspire her audience with
performances. She sees her music as a way of Life. She has always had a passion
for Nigeria and has always strived to project a positive image of her Country
through her music. This made her relocate back to Nigeria in 2003 to officially
establish her presence. She says, ‘I want to be referred to as a Nigeria based
International artiste’.
Within the short period of her entrance into the music scene
with her own brand, Mfon has featured prominently in several concerts and
festivals at both national and international levels; she has also
ministered/performed in churches and at special church events, some of which
are listed below.
